Several reasons Manchester United shouldn’t sack David Moyes

Tuesday’s 2-0 Champions League defeat at Olympiacos left Manchester United boss David Moyes at rock bottom and even some of the Scot’s more loyal supporters are now calling for his head. But, despite a dismal season which could yet get worse, we think Moyes should remain in charge at Old Trafford until at least the summer.

Here are five reasons United shouldn’t sack the Scot:

5. History says Moyes should be given a chance

It’s not the Manchester United way to sack the manager after just 10 months – simple as that! Fergie struggled when he first arrived at Old Trafford, with sections of the fan-base calling for his head, but the board backed him and the rest is history; United’s faith in him paid off. Sir Matt Busby also spent a similar length of time at the club, while even United’s shortest serving bosses of the past century, Frank O’Farrell and Wilf McGuinness, were both given 18 months. United should give Moyes until the summer, at least, before pulling the trigger. I am sure that he will achieve his goal with the manchester united shirt.

4. Fergie’s legacy is stinks

Fergie claimed he was leaving his successor with a young squad on the up and up but the reality couldn’t be further from the truth. THREE of Moyes’ four first choice defenders look set to retire in the summer, while their deputies are increasingly being exposed as painfully average. United’s midfield is also packed with mediocre players (it’s hardly surprising Moyes has used 40-year-old Ryan Giggs so much), leaving the strike force as the only area of the team with true quality. So brilliant was Fergie, United had been cutting corners in the transfer market years before Moyes’ arrival. The chickens are now coming home to roost and it’s harsh to blame the current boss.

3. The impossible job

Last summer, the majority of fans, journalists and pundits believed Moyes was undertaking a near impossible task in replacing Fergie, so why are they crucifying him now? Forget the impossible dream, Fergie left his successor with an impossible job. The pressure on Moyes’ shoulders is immense but he was never expected to live up to the great man. Things may be worse than expected but what goes up, must come down; the board will not have expected Moyes to meet Fergie’s standards, so they should stick with him now rather than panic. The first thing for us is to encourage Moyes to come true his football dream with manchester united jerseys in someday.

2. This is not Moyes’ team

Tuesday’s defeat was listless, pathetic, heartless and ultimately embarrassing but it’s worth remembering David Moyes was NOT on the pitch. The Scot is tasked with inspiring and guiding his players but some responsibility must lie with them – and the guilty parties in Athens weren’t Moyes’ men. Neither of his signings, Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata, featured, while Adnan Januzaj, who has been promoted from the youth set-up to Moyes’ credit, was also missing. The Scot deserves to be judged when he has had time to implement his methods and buy his players.

1. There’s no obvious replacement

Sacking Moyes is all very well, but who could United replace him with? Laudrup? AVB? Malky Mackay? As Spurs found when they dismissed Villas-Boas, it can be tricky to find a pleasing solution when there's a shortage of quality managers on the market. Most big-names are not available until the after the World Cup but if United wait until then, it may well spell another summer of indecision, upheaval and ultimately failure in the transfer market, which they cannot afford given the lack of quality in their squad. Therefore ,we should give Moyes more patience , we should wait him to give us more miracle with the manchester united jersey 2014.
